Best fishing book I’ve read, and I’ve read quite a few. Great writing style, easy to read, very informative, solid instruction. Any coastal angler will benefit and catch more fish.

This book is well organized and instructive. I was able to use the information to increase my productivity and enjoyment during a recent fishing trip to the Texas Gulf Coast. I recommend this book to beginners looking for saltwater fishing tips.

Though i’ve lived all my life on the gulf coast and fished on and off growing up, I’m just now returning to it again and am still very much a begginner when it comes to salt water fishing. Pat Murray puts coastal fishing into perspective that are right in front of us that I think many of us look at but never see. His explanation of the gulf, bays, and marsh systems is very interesting and highly usefull. I’d never really thought about where the fish go, or where they breed, and never realized there was so much migration happening with some species, and very little with others. As for the specifics of fishing and the tools of the trade he fills the book with them. And the big color plates in the back of the book on the 5 hottest bays is a real treat.
This is no boring autobiagraphy of “How i became a great fisherman”. It’s a “how to/where to”, of coastal fishing, from the gulf to the marsh with a lot of the actual bays and waterways examined chapter to chapter.
I’m not saying Pat Murray is the final word on coastal fishing, and if he was I sure wouldn’t be qualified to make that call, but as someone relatively new/returning to the love of coastal fishing, this book is a must.
I just picked up my copy at a half price book store for less than 5 dollars. From what I’m reading, i’d call that a keeper.
